Day 110: Rattlesnakes??

Updated: Nov 19, 2022

Today was our first full day walking on the service road next to the interstate. We loaded up on water and food at the gas station about a mile in, as we would not have another stop for about 20 miles. The noise of the cars was much more intense than we were accustomed to. I (James) also could hear the noise of rattlesnakes just off the road, although this was actually coming from bugs mimicking the sound. Sam had left the gas station about 30 minutes before me, but I regained the lead and quiet walking past him while he was taking a break along the road. About 20 miles in, I was making my way into the town of Vega. I was on the verge of a bathroom emergency but was saved by a porta potty by the local high school. I then took a 40 minute break on a bench by the baseball field. From there I headed to Dollar General to restock and walked another 4 miles until I found a nice spot under a bridge for us to pitch our tents. It was a cool evening but I felt warm tucked away in the tent.
