We enjoyed lounging around in the tent in the morning and didn’t start walking until around 12:30pm. We had a nice shoulder on the interstate but the trucks were extremely noisy, which made the walk rather unpleasant. About 6 miles in, we had the option to take Route 66 going off the interstate. This added about 1 mile but was definitely worth it for a much more pleasant walk. Along the way, we crossed into New Mexico and entered the Mountain Time zone. We also walked through the ghost town of Glenrio. Unfortunately, it started to rain pretty hard in the late afternoon. Sam kept walking, but I (James) got fed up with the rain in my soaked sweatshirt. The dirt path we were on had also become muddy, and I was sick of trudging through it while pushing the stroller. I found a spot under a tree just off the road and pitched me tent to wait out the rain. A few hours later, I decided to start walking again. The dirt path was still damp, which provided some nice extra resistance for the stroller! It was also pretty cold that night, and I unfortunately ran out of food along the way (the same thing happened to Sam). Cold, hungry, and fatigued, I kept walking until finally reaching the town of San Jon at 12:30am MT. It was a pretty awful day, but I looked forward to getting some sleep and being able to finally eat some food at the gas station the next day.
