After getting caught in the rain the previous night, we stayed tucked away in our tents all morning. It was raining again and a crisp 47 degrees outside, and it was definitely the coldest I’d been in the tent so far. I (James) ended up taking a nice nap and waking up a few hours later around 3:00pm. Sam headed out a little after 4, and I waited until around 5 before packing up. We decided that we would walk only 14 miles to Tucumcari. As we had walked 10 miles the previous night after waiting out the rain all day, this meant that we would have to forego our rest day tomorrow in order to stay on the 150 mile/week pace. I walked pretty much nonstop, as I wanted to try and make it to Family Dollar in Tucumcari to buy a sweatshirt for the night before it closed at 10pm. As most of my clothes were soaked, I had no choice but to walk in a a T-shirt despite the cool weather. I made it to Family Dollar just before 10pm, and the employees were kind enough to let me shop around for a sweatshirt after closing. I then headed over to a nearby park to meet Sam and pitch our tents. The weather forecasts showed that our days of rain would be over for awhile, which was a relief.
