Unfortunately, I again woke up in the middle of the night due to the cold. I had a pretty bad headache, as well as a sore throat and runny nose. At around 8am, I decided it was time to get going, as I had 30 miles between me and the Airbnb in Albuquerque. It was 42 degrees at the time and pretty tough packing everything up. The first 20 minutes of the walk were pretty cold. However, the temperature quickly began to rise and I removed my warmer clothes one by one. The first several miles along Route 66 were very unpleasant, as the shoulder was narrow and there were tons of cars on the road. I made it to a McDonalds in the town of Edgewood and had a nice long break. I went another 5 miles or so to the next gas station. At this point, the rest of the walk to Albuquerque would be an entirely downhill descent into the valley. I enjoyed the first 7 miles of the descent before stopping at a Subway in Tijeras for dinner. The last 11 miles were a physical struggle, but some phone calls from friends and Netflix at the end helped power me through. I finally reached the Airbnb around 10:30pm. My mother, who had stayed up waiting for me, greeted me and gave me some Tylenol for my headache (which I had neglected to carry with me). A big thunderstorm also began shortly after I had arrived, which was a satisfying end to an otherwise miserable day.
