Sam’s Days
My (Sam) arrival into Albuquerque was actually quite nice. I originally headed out just before 9 in order to make a scheduled Fox Albuquerque interview which was supposed to take place in front of the house we would be staying in at 10:30am. This was unfortunately cancelled, and I decided to go to a local Mexican restaurant in the meantime about 2 miles away. I was initially sad that there was no Al Pastor, but I was impressed with the Adobada, and I ended up eating 2 burritos and a torta. They were quite good. I then headed off to the house that James’ parents got for us. I laid low for the most part and called the news station again to see if we could reschedule the interview. They offered us a spot on the morning show, which seemed a bit different than what we had experienced thus far. During my second day in Albuquerque (Tuesday), I mostly ran errands. I went to Walmart with James to get some better warm weather clothes. We then went to REI to buy new shoes. I later went to get a haircut by myself at SportClips, my first one since the start of the trip. I went to bed relatively early since the morning show required us to be at the station at 7am. We woke up on Wednesday at around 6:30, and hopped in a Lyft to head to the KRQE station. We were quite impressed with what we saw. It was pretty surreal walking into the broadcast room while the weather woman was describing the forecast on the green screen. We had a full five minutes on live television and we’re grateful for our time there. After leaving the station, we went back to the house to prepare for our departure. There were a few cool spots along the way where we mingled with the Albuquerque locals and even received a lesson on classic motor vehicles. We then walked to a Church’s chicken to catch up on our blog posts, and later went on to complete our first 25 mile day post a long stay somewhere.

James’ 125 Day
We woke up around 6am to catch an Uber to the local Fox station for a guest appearance on the morning news. While we had previously been interviewed by stations in Terre Haute and Albuquerque, this was our first time being on live television. It was exciting to experience the atmosphere down at the station and know that people were watching us in real time on their televisions. After returning back to the house, we packed up our stuff and were out the door by 9:30am. We walked the first 5 miles before stopping at Walmart to stock up for the road. A few more miles in, we found ourselves in Old Town, which is where Albuquerque was originally founded. We spent some time in the Old Town Plaza, which had a very relaxing feel to it. We met a man named Gabe, who chatted with us for awhile and let us sit in his 1950s-era car. We also talked for a bit with another man who was intrigued by our journey. After getting back on the road, we walked for another few miles before stopping at Church Texas Chicken to have a bite to eat and catch up on the blog posts. We headed out around 7pm to walk the last 12 miles of the day. It was a cool evening, and it was definitely a good thing we did our winter shopping while in Albuquerque. We finally pitched our tents around 12:30am right by a burger joint/gas station.
