Day 132: Night Walking, Not That Bad

Today we woke up on the side of the road near a convinience/country store in Pine Hill, NM. It was a pretty cold morning, per usual, but it was nice to finally be back at a place where we could restock, so I (Sam) somewhat looked forward to getting out of my tent. I went to the store and first bought a bunch of food for the road (candy, hot dogs, and a few bananas) as well as food to eat in the moment (wings, pizza, and some egg rolls). We ended up hanging out at the convinience store for quite a while, leaving at around 2:30pm or so. I got stopped by a friendly sheriff who was just checking in and later a lady who offered us a place to stay. She told us the street and that she lived in a big brown house, but nothing else really. Unfortunately, once we arrived at her street, it was dark. We circled the area for a while, which included several houses and trailers with no success other than waking up the entire neighborhood. We were even greeted by a woman who we thought would be her, but she just asked us what we were doing. This wasn’t the end of the world, as it was about 10 miles behind our original destination would would have led to a big day of walking the day after. We walked another 10 miles in the cold until reaching our final destination off the side of the road. It was also a notably starry night. Sometimes, the night walking is not that bad, and tonight happened to be one of those nights.
