Day 134: Haunted House Decor

It was a great feeling to wake up knowing that we wouldn’t be walking today. Cell service was also not an issue because we slept right next to a phone tower. I (Sam) watched a movie in my tent to start off the day while also confirming some plans with my mother who would be visiting us later in the day. Krystal, who we met at the Fence Lake Community Center yesterday, came back to finish her haunted house decorations. She let us into the building, and we once again lounged around in front of the heater. At this point, the day was going by somewhat slowly, but it was still nice to relax. Krystal’s mother as well as a few other locals trickled in as the day went on. Finally, around 7:30pm, my mother arrived at the community center after a 2 hour drive from Albuquerque. I took her to the nearby church where she could park her car, and we began organizing her bag for the few days that she would spend walking with us. After this, I took her to the community center where she met the locals and also helped out with the decorating. She also brought us some burritos and a few tortas from a restaurant in Albuquerque. It was very nice to enjoy some real food. The decorations were complete at around 9pm, and Krystal was ready to close out the community center. We said our goodbyes and went out back to get back in our tents. My mother slept in my tent with me, so I tucked her in. It was a pretty cold night, something my mother was not accustomed to, but thankfully she brought a good sleeping bag and liner to remain comfortable.
