Day 135: Sam’s Mom is Walking

It was a cold night in the tent, but I (James) ended up sleeping pretty well. We got going around noon, and the road quickly turned to gravel. A few miles into the walk, the front wheel on my stroller began to make an awful noise. I tried apply some grease to it, and this worked for a bit. However, the noise soon returned, so I decided to just ignore it and hope the stroller didn’t break down. In the late afternoon, we went over a mountain, which had a beautiful view from the top. I also had the best cell reception that I’ve had in several days. We later took a right turn and headed through some rocky terrain that was a bit more challenging for the strollers. We arrived at a gate, which we opened without really thinking about it. We soon realized we were on someone’s farm. As we were passing by a house, an angry man with a bunch of dogs came out. He told us that we couldn’t pass through his property. It was tough to try and explain what we were doing, as he could easily just go back into his house and come out with a rifle. So we turned back the way we had come and left in a hurry. We were able to figure out another route that would only add 5 miles to the walk, so it wasn’t the end of the world. We found a nice spot off the road and decided to call it a night after about 16 miles.
