I (James) got going in the late morning while Sam was still in his tent. It was extremely windy and taking apart the tent was a frustrating ordeal. The walk was a struggle going into the wind, and I took short breaks every couple of miles. The shoulder was also pretty narrow, which is never pleasant to begin with. Around 2pm, I made it to a small market about 8 miles east of Snowflake, where we would be stopping for the night. There was a small computer room where the employees allowed me to charge my devices, which was also a comfortable spot to get away from the cold wind. I stayed for a few hours, finally leaving around 5:30pm after Sam had already passed by. He was on his way to make it to a Mexican restaurant in town before it closed at 8pm, but it was already too late for me. The road was absolutely horrible after the sun went down. There was barely any shoulder and traffic was quite busy. I frequently found myself having to pull my stroller onto the grass to avoid cars that didn’t seem to see me. Finally, I made it to Pioneer Park in Snowflake. We found a nice spot under a pavilion to pitch our tents. Having the roof over our heads was pretty clutch, as it was going to rain that night.
