Day 151: Burrito Eaten by a Flock of Crows

Updated: Jan 30, 2023

I (Sam) woke up in the park to a police officer checking in on me. She was very nice and said that someone was concerned that I had a baby with me in the tent. After this encounter, I began packing my things to get ready for the day. Thankfully, I saved a burrito from the night before which helped motivate me to wake up. I ate about half of it before going to the public restroom in the park. I left the half eaten burrito in my cup holder when I went into the bathroom. While inside, I began to hear the chirping of birds increase over time. I did not think much of it until I opened the door and found my burrito being pecked at by a flock of crows. Sadly I had to throw it away. I felt strangely tired despite resting in Phoenix only a few days earlier. Perhaps it was a subconscious stall to avoid getting on the interstate (we were planning on walking on I-10). After about 6 miles, I found myself sitting under a bridge on the highway, exhausted. To make matters even better, the sun began to set! I gathered myself afterwards and continued onward onto the interstate. The beginning portion was actually not too bad because there was a blocked off construction zone I was able to walk through. I was able to power through the night and eventually pitched my tent on the side of the interstate. Today was one of those days where all I looked forward to from the moment I rose was getting back in the tent at night.
