After a long day yesterday, I (James) still tried to get going early. My tent was pitched right by the travel center, so I left it there and headed inside around 8am. Inside I found a nice massage chair and payed 5 bucks for a 15 minute massage. It wasn’t the most comfortable massage, but it still hit some tight knots and somewhat did the trick. I then had an omelette from the diner inside. On my way back to the tent, I met a man who was apparently walking to Kentucky with his dog. I wished him well on his journey before making it back to the tent and lying down for a bit. Shortly before noon, I decided it was time to get going. Unfortunately, I was soon stopped by a travel cop. He said that I could not walk on the interstate and handed me a warning. He instructed me to get off at the next exit before driving off to talk to Sam, who was about a mile behind. Unfortunately, taking the side roads would add about 6 miles to our trip, but we figured it wouldn’t be a big deal in the grand scheme of things. We walked another 5 miles or so before reaching a rest stop. This would be the last place we could stock up for the next 100 miles, which would be the longest stretch of the trip of this nature. After eating some subway sandwiches and stocking up on a ton of food and water, we headed back out for the final 14 miles of the day. Along the way, we developed a plan to walk the last 100 miles of our journey in 48 hours. We also passed a dead cow on the side of the road, which we haven’t seen before. I ended up pitching my tent a mile before Sam that evening, as it was one of those days where I had simply had enough.
