I (James) woke up outside the electricity plant that I had pitched my tent at last night. I was very tired, as it was tough to not have had a rest day in so long. Finally, I decided to take my tent down, and it wasn’t until 1:30pm that I was ready to start walking. It was tough knowing that I was destined for another late night. I walked the first 5 miles on the interstate before taking a break at a rest stop. I was hoping to walk along a side road for a bit, but unfortunately this road was all sand. So I hopped back on the interstate, excited for a long night of walking! I took short breaks every couple miles, and with about 4 miles left in the night, I turned off the interstate to walk on a side road that I had been looking forward to. Unfortunately, this side road was also unpaved, so I again headed back on the interstate. It was also a cold and windy evening, so I was wearing my ski mask for the first time in awhile to keep my face warm. Finally, around midnight, I arrived at my destination. It felt nice to make it after wanting to quit so many times that day.

Today I (Sam) was somewhat looking forward to the morning because I knew that at least the beginning portion would be paved. This soon ended, however, as the service road was directed back towards the interstate. I decided to go on the dirt road both for safety from the traffic and to avoid getting a ticket. I actually enjoyed the peace that came with being away from the road but still having a decent road. Other than some patches of sand and rocks as well as some steep climbs, the “road” was not all too bad. The most challenging part of the day probably came at the end when I was debating whether or not to do a few extra miles. I ended up powering through for an hour at the end, and eventually found a nice spot off the side of the path to pitch my tent.
