Day 162: Outskirts of Indio

Today I (Sam) woke up on the side of the road somewhat relieved. I only had about 4.5 miles until I would reach Indio, and Iran won their World Cup match against Wales. I had a somewhat slow morning, but got out of my tent to a beautiful morning. My sleeping spot was also nicely tucked away behind a tree, which provided me with some shade from the morning sun. The feeling of getting into a town was incredible. Much of the last few miles included descent, which was a nice change of pace from the hilly terrain I was experiencing earlier. There was one difficult stretch when I made it to the outskirts of Indio because there was no sidewalk and only sand on the side of the road that I had to trudge through. Eventually, I made it to my destination for the day, a rented house where James and his family had checked in the night before for Thanksgiving. I greeted his parents and immediately splurged on their Thanksgiving leftovers. The USA v. England game was on at noon, so I watched that with James and his family after eating. Later on, James and I had an interview with the U-High Midway (our high school newspaper), which was quite nice. Our day was quite relaxing other than this, and I was grateful to be able to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday even though it was technically a day later. I was also incredibly relieved to learn that we would be spending the night at the house, as I originally thought that we would be checking out and walking by the afternoon.
