After a sleepless night in the violent thunderstorm, I (James) got out of my tent around 8:00am and let Chop out of his cage. We went up on the porch of Paris Presbyterian Church, where we had slept last night. I met a man name Kelly, whom I filled in about our journey and the case of the missing goat. He made a few calls to see who Chop’s owner was, and eventually his brother Gary showed up at the church. Gary had seen a Facebook post about a stolen goat, and the goat pictured was clearly Chop. Chop’s owner picked him up shortly after, and we said our goodbyes before accepting an invitation to the Sunday church service. Kelly shared our story during the service, and we received many wishes of good luck. We were then given plenty of food for the road and offered shelter for our tents under the church pavilion. We stayed there for the rest of the day to catch up on sleep and stay out of the rain. We now plan to walk about 30 miles per day in order to reach Columbus in 5 days.
