We woke up under the shade of a canopy next to the church we slept by last night. After talking to a man who was mowing the lawn, we were on our way. Once again we had a staggered start with James leaving about an hour before myself. Today was a very hard day, as we had a very long week behind us. My feet were in shambles after about 10 miles, but I (Sam) felt motivated to keep pushing knowing Columbus was up ahead. Walking through the city was nice—it was much larger than I was expecting. With two miles left, the mental games began kicking in. “40 minutes left, nearly the entire length of a class period.” Usually 40 minutes would be nothing, but in this context it felt like forever. As I approached the final straight stretch, I saw members of the Bull family (who we were going to be staying with over the next several days) shouting at me through a speakerphone. I began sprinting, going as hard as I could for the last quarter mile. Once I arrived, the Bulls treated us to some Nashville hot chicken, and we called it a night soon after. Everything felt earned that day.
