Still feeling refreshed from our stay in Columbus, getting out of the tents was not much of a hassle today. I (Sam) left slightly before James this time, and he eventually caught up when I missed a turn while busy on the phone with my brother. Most of the day went as “planned,” as even our cop encounters are becoming quite routine. The only tricky part was navigating to a place to sleep. One church was 22 miles away while the other was 31 with no parks or other suitable places to sleep in between. We decided to go all 31 today. After taking a long rest off the side of the road accompanied by the vile stench of a dead animal that we could not locate. We left, and eventually stopped by a Marathon gas station 26 miles in to eat dinner: Chef Boyardee. James and I put on our night gear for the last five miles, where we set up our tents next to a Mennonite Church. As soon as we were tucked away, we heard a car pull up to the gravel next to us while shining its light on our tents. We were a little spooked, but we suspect that this was a cop who decided they were not going to kick us out for the night.
