I (Sam) had a very tough time getting started this morning. It was overcast and I was still getting over my tummy issues from the night before. We packed up and headed off, only to be met by rain 5 minutes into our walk. The drizzle soon turned into a pour, and we were forced to seek refuge under a tree in someone’s lawn since the road conditions were not safe for walking. We spent about an hour under the tree before deciding to take a “rest day” in the town up ahead. We walked for another 5 miles, making it 6 on the day after stopping in Crietz Park, which was quite nice. Our tents were set up under an awning, and we hung out there for a while (we arrived around 1:30pm). I then went to grab dinner at a Mexican restaurant called El Mezcal. After finishing my burrito and fajitas, one of the servers who was not mine came over to take my food away. He also mentioned to me that my bill was already taken care of, which was confusing. I asked by who, and he said himself, to which I replied, “Why?”. “It was not that much anyways,” he said. I thanked him, and ensured that this was the case with my waitress too, who explained, “When someone says that around here, they mean it.” I still did not know what exactly to make of this, but I was grateful and made sure to leave a tip. For the record, I was not carrying my stroller (thus not looking too disheveled). Anyways, I came back and set up my tent. The day ended up being very pleasant, and I soon hit the sack.
