Day 50: in the lead

Today we woke up at a church after calling it slightly early since we were trudging through off-road grass at night just outside of Indianapolis. We left at around 10:17 and went 3 miles before stopping at Chick-fil-a for about 30 minutes where we got some food. Afterwards we did not stop until a nice shady patch of grass with about 12 miles to go. I (Sam) talked to my father for a bit and listened to some Formula 1 podcasts along the way. Our break in the shade lasted for about 1:20 hours/minutes. I left about 30 minutes before James did, this being the first time I left before him. It felt nice being in the lead for once. We even played the truck game, where I would announce a certain truck on the phone while James would relay how long it took for that truck to reach him. I then went to Dollar General to get some water and got some hot pockets for dinner which I let warm up in the bottom of my stroller. I talked to my mother and brother for a bit along with Giacomo. Soon I arrived at a church after 24 miles of walking, 2 miles short of our goal for the day. I did figure that this would be better since the 26 mile stop didn’t have much space for sleeping, and the closest place to sleep there was 1.5 miles out of the way. James came about 30 minutes later. We realized that there was a lady in the church, but we were quiet on the side and pitched our tents.
