Day 53: 1/4 of the way

After a nice rest day at the Church, it was tough to get going again. It recently has been hitting me that we only are a little over one-fourth of the way through our journey. We left around 9:40am, and had our first rest at a McDonald’s 12 miles in on the western end of Terre Haute. In Terre Haute, we walked by the Vigo County Historical Museum, which has a huge Coca-Cola mural on the outside (Terre Haute is the birthplace of the Coca-Cola bottle). We also walked by the Larry Bird Museum, which unfortunately has not opened yet. We also passed a sign explaining that Terre Haute is known as the “Crossroads of America” due to the intersection between Highway 41 and Highway 40. After a long break at McDonalds, we got back on the road and walked the next 15 miles more or less nonstop. Along the way, we crossed into Illinois and into the Central Time Zone! We reached a church and set up camp under an awning just as it began to rain, hitting 27 miles on the day.
