After a big 32 mile day yesterday, we slept in a bit and were ready to go around 10:30. Just as we were about to head out, a man named Jacob politely asked us to leave, as his family was having a reunion at the pavilion we had slept under. He gave us each a Modelo on our way out. We were feeling the struggle physically, as this was our 7th day in a row walking and we were coming off a big day yesterday. We stopped at a gas station in the town of Marine about 6 miles in and stopped for about an hour. We then headed back out onto an awful road with a ton of cars and a gravel shoulder. Fortunately, the route took us onto a bike path after several miles. It felt incredible to walk without worrying about oncoming cars for once. We were on the bike path for 7 miles and ended up on another one for another 3 miles. While the lack of cars was nice, we began to get eaten alive by bugs on the second bike path. I arrived at Peace Church around 8:30, and Sam got there around 9:00 after stopping to use the bathroom. We also had a good phone conversation with Dave (who we stayed with in Columbus) and Cathy (our friend John’s mother who connected us with our Columbus family) to discuss the philanthropic plans for our walk. We hit 25 miles on the day, reaching the 1,000 mile milestone for the trip and leaving just 22 miles between us and our next stop in St. Louis.
