We had a great stay in St. Louis with Brad and Barbara - friends of my mother who are also doctors. On Day 61, we slept in and lounged around the house before heading out to a Chinese buffet around 1pm. I made sure to wear my scrubs so people thought I was a doctor. After the buffet, we headed to REI to buy some shoes. For me, this signified the end of the boots era (my boots had made it 1000 miles) and ushered in the new age of the sneakers. For Sam, it meant his $9 Walmart shoes could finally be put to rest. We each bought a pair of Hokas and hope to sign a lucrative endorsement deal with the company. We then bought a bag of 130 pizza rolls and 4 boxes of Dino nuggets from Target and headed home. For dinner, Brad and Barb took us out to dinner at Brick House Tavern. After a wonderful meal, we headed back home to watch Scarface.
On Day 62, we spent the entire day inside, alternating time between the couches on the first floor and the one on the second floor. Brad had a dinner, so Barb made us chicken as well as fresh corn and broccoli. It was again a nice change of pace from what we had been eating on the road. We had originally planned to leave the following day, but decided to stay our patented extra day.
On Day 63, I watched Goodfellas. The film reminded me of my Italian friend Sean, especially the part where Henry Hill keeps checking that his brother is stirring the pasta sauce while simultaneously organizing a chaotic drug trafficking operation to Pittsburgh. After Goodfellas, I watched Dodgeball (a personal favorite of mine) while Sam went into town to explore the Saint Louis Art Museum. After Sam got back, he wanted to watch Dodgeball so I watched it again. We said goodbye to Brad earlier that afternoon and Barb that evening. It was tough knowing that we would be back on the road tomorrow after such a pleasant stay.
