After having our earliest start of the trip yesterday, we quickly got back to our old ways with a 10am start today. Being the fifth day of the walking week, it was an exceptionally difficult day. The town we stayed in, Rolla, MO, was a college town (home of Missouri School of Science and Technology). It was interesting walking through their campus, as classes seemed to be starting and students were packing the sidewalks. James stopped at the post office about a half mile in to deliver his old boots back home and we made a CVS run soon after to restock on food and water. We also went to McDonalds to grab some McChickens for the road. After about 12 consecutive miles of walking, we stopped in a small town called Newburg (3pm). There was a nice park/playground perfect for laying out the sleeping pads for a nap. We took a 2 hour nap, a little longer than expected. This resulted in night walking, although this time Route 66 split into two lanes, providing us with plenty of space to walk. We found a nice patch of grass off the side of the road and called it a night while also talking on the phone with a couple of friends.
