We started to pack up our tents around 10:30am, and a man pulled up next to us in his truck. It turned out we were on his property, but he was nice about it and offered to let us use the trash bin. We walked about a mile or so before stopping at Uranus, a local tourist attraction that uses the name Uranus as a play on words. We got ice cream, fudge from the Uranus Fudge Factory, and then lounged around in some chairs for awhile. We didn’t really care about late night walking, as we knew our rest day would be tomorrow. We spent awhile at Walmart another 3 miles down the road. We loaded up on Hot Pockets, sausages, and beers for the rest day and made sure to stock up on water as well. After Walmart, we walked 20 miles straight (with a brief stop at Dollar General). We also talked briefly with a man who was playing his guitar along the side of the road. We arrived at Hazelgreen Access (a fishing spot under the bridge of I-44) a little before 11:00pm. The walk included several gravel roads with hills, which we ran up at times in frustration. I (James) listened to an interesting episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast with Michio Kaku, a theoretical physicist who discussed possible explanations for UFOs that do not follow our laws of aerodynamics. I also listened to every Miranda Cosgrove song on Spotify to power through the last few miles. In order to get to a nice spot by the river, we had to carry our hiking bags and strollers (in two separate trips) down a steep hill in the dark. I made sure to tread carefully after Sam wiped out. It was well worth it, as we set up camp under a tree right by the water.
