Today was our first rest day in the truest sense. Every other rest day that was not spent at someone’s house involved some sort of walking, from 2-10 miles. Today we walked none, as we set up camp next to the Gasconade River by a fishing boat access point last night. I (Sam) lounged around in the tent in the morning and then decided to go for a swim to cool off. The water was not too cold, but still refreshing, and I waded around for a solid 20 minutes. I then ate some hot pockets which were heating up on one of our black Crazy Creek chairs for lunch. It was simply so nice to know that we weren’t going to have to walk today. Afterwards, I laid out on the platform for about an hour dozing in and out of sleep. Realizing that I was tired, I went back in my tent and laid down for a few hours. At around 6:30pm, I decided to go in for another dip, this time with James joining me. We enjoyed a couple of beers in the water and had some brats that we once again heated up on the Crazy Creek for dinner. I got up out of my tent to pee around an hour ago (10pm). After looking up at the sky, I am mesmerized with the amount of stars we are able to see in the absence of light pollution. I have experienced this before, but it was a beautiful reminder. Today we really learned the value of a rest day done right.
