We wanted to set the tone for no night-walking this week and had our alarms set for 6am. We still had a hard time waking up and started packing up around 7. We carried our hiking bags and pushed our strollers up the hill we had come down 2 days ago. Around 8am, we said goodbye to Hazelgreen Access and started walking. It was sad to leave, but I (James) also felt refreshed after such a great rest day. We walked 16 straight miles in reaching Dowd’s Catfish and BBQ in the town of Lebanon for lunch around 1pm. Along the way, a man in a pickup truck named Alex gave Sam $40 for a meal down the road. I also stocked up at Dollar General in the town and picked up some new phone cords for both of us. We left the restaurant at 2:30 and headed across the street for Sam to fill his water at a Subway. At Subway, the employees were impressed with our trip and generously gave us some free cookies for the road. We arrived at our stop for the day after 10 more miles of walking (26 total). It felt great to finish so early, and it was honestly probably one of the easiest full walking days we’ve had. We had hot pockets, SpaghettiOs, Chef Boyardee, and the Subway cookies for dinner as we watched fire trucks rush towards a fire a quarter mile back - where we had just walked. We set up the tents in some tall grass off the road around 8pm, enjoying a well-deserved early finish to the day.
