I (Sam) woke up at around 7:30 and began taking down my camp at 8am along with James. Immediately after putting my tent away, however, I realized that James and I would be on different schedules today. I let him leave and proceeded to venture in the woods to find a good spot to lay some explosive bricks. Afterwards, I brushed my teeth and headed off on my way. The map had us continuing on Route 66, which while historic, had absolutely no shoulder. At this point we have adapted to this, but it can still be a pain having to constantly move onto the grass when cars don’t give you room. I walked about 16 straight miles into the town of Springfield, the biggest one we would pass through since Saint Louis. I stopped at a Fazoli’s Italian “fast food” restaurant and ordered some spaghetti and meatballs. I have had a craving for spaghetti recently that does not come out of a can. During this visit, I realized that I was getting a lot of looks when entering the establishment. I was already conscious of the numerous holes that were accumulating on my shirt and decided that at this point it is time for a change. After Fazoli’s, I walked another 8 miles to our destination, Walmart. We found a nice spot next to the store that was hidden and pitched our tents for the night.
