I (James) woke up in the little hut and started to pack up a little after 8. Sam was about 4 miles back and would have to cover some extra ground today. It was nice not having to pack up the tent, and I got going around 8:20. I stopped about 8 miles in at Taco Bell and had a nice rest and a burrito. I then walked another 12 miles to McDonald’s, encountering a large number of grasshoppers along the way. We have also been passing numerous dead armadillos along the side of the road - perhaps a sign of the changing climate. Route 60, which we have been on the past 2 days, has also had a much wider shoulder. This has been a welcome change from Route 66. I stocked up at Dollar General and then went to McDonald’s and ordered 6 McChickens. Sam made it to McDonald’s and I left shortly afterwards. I arrived at the Monett Regional Airport in Yonkerville around 7pm, where there was a nice patch of grass for us to sleep on. Sam got there about an hour and a half later. On the day, my diet consisted entirely of McDonald’s, Taco Bell, and pop tarts.
