I (James) left at 9:20am, starting a bit before Sam. I had a bit of trouble sleeping the night before, as it was quite windy and my tent was flapping around. However, the wind died down around 1:30am and I was able to fall asleep shortly after that. It was again very windy, which felt nice in the heat. However, the wind was blowing against us, which made walking a bit more challenging. It also was hard to communicate with people over the phone due to the noise. Along the road, we were both passed by a man biking from Coney Island to California. We were then passed by a British couple also biking from New York to California. Both parties started in August and are traveling over twice us far as us each day. Today was also Sunday, so we had a lot of football entertainment to keep us going during the walk. I stopped at Lucille’s Roadhouse 14 miles in, and Sam arrived about a half hour later. We each ordered the all-you-can-eat fried chicken and stayed there for over 2 hours watching football. We then headed to Walmart 2 miles ahead to stock up on food. We walked another 3 miles and called the day early, pitching our tents on the side of the road to watch the second half of the Bears Packers Sunday night game.
