I (James) got going around 9:30am after the wind nearly blew my tent away while I was packing up. It was a chilly morning and the wind was pretty ridiculous at times. I stopped at a gas station and stocked up on food, as it would be about 50 miles until we would reach another place to restock. Shortly after, I stopped at a McDonalds to seek refuge from the wind and wait for Sam. We hung out at McDonalds for awhile and watched the 11am slate of NFL games. I ate 5 McChickens and kept another 7 for the road. A little after 3, we finally got going. The road took us through the mountains and quickly turned to dirt. It was a very scenic walk as the path winded between the cliffs on either side of us. Along the way, we passed some cows that were grazing calmly right in the middle of the road. The temperature began to drop as the sun set. We had a few people driving by in the dark who stopped to ask if we were doing okay. One man warned us of the mountain lions and bears that were spotted in the area from time to time. For the last few hours, it actually began to snow. Our walk for the day culminated in a long uphill stretch while the snow blew in our faces. Around 11:30, we had had enough. We found a nice spot under a tree and pitched our tents while it continued to snow.
